Chris Harper
At just 15 years of age, Chris began broadcasting career volunteering as a presenter on Hospital Radio at Singleton Hospital. He then started to DJ all over South Wales including a residency at The Penthouse Club in the city. When Swansea Sound announced they were looking for a launch team in 1974, he made an audition tape at the BBC’s studios on Alexandra Road and took it to his friend Steve Dewitt for his opinion. Steve approved and pushed him to apply for a position. Within a few weeks it was announced that Chris would be part of the line-up and was chosen to be the first voice heard on the new station, hosting The Breakfast Show for 2 years. The West Midlands was his next destination, waking up Wolverhampton and The Black Country on Beacon Radio. Whilst there, he moved into commercial production and the skills he honed got him a job at CKRA FM in Edmonton, Alberta in Canada during the early 80’s. Chris has lived in the Great White North ever since and though retired these days, he’s happy to serve the lovely people of Swansea once again with his 70’s Supergold show every Saturday at 8pm.
